Why See a Prosthodontist?

You should see a prosthodontist if you have been referred to see one by your general dentist or other dental specialist. You may also make a direct appointment with a prosthodontist if you would like the expertise and a skill of a prosthodontist for any of the types of treatment above. A referral is not necessary.

General dentists often refer patients to a prosthodontist when the treatment is complex and when it may be in the patient’s best interest to seek the expertise of a specialist. In these situations, Dr Thangavel will liaise with your referring dentist to keep them in the loop and keep them involved as part of your ongoing treatment.

In some situations, your treatment may need the input of multiple specialists. The Prosthodontist is considered the architect of the dental treatment plan, and will lead teams of general dentists, specialists and other health professionals to develop solutions for your specific dental needs. This ensures that all aspects of your dental treatment are completed by the best person for the job.

How Much Will It Cost?

The consultation is a fixed fee of $250 and includes everything conducted within that appointment. If you have private health insurance, you will receive a rebate back from your health fund which can be claimed on the spot.

Dr Thangavel can generally give you a quote for your treatment at the first visit, however complex situations may require a few visits to develop a comprehensive treatment plan. This will be discussed with you on the day.

We have a range of flexible payment options available for your convenience, including payment plans. Please speak to Dr Thangavel or one of our friendly receptionists for further details.
